Caroni Lagoon National Park
This tour takes you into the beautiful serene landscape of the untouched mangrove Caroni Swamp, a world-class destination for bird watchers and outdoor enthusiasts, and home to the National Bird of Trinidad, the bright red Scarlet Ibis.

Bird life is particularly abundant in Trinidad and this tour provides a delightful introduction with appeal to bird-watching enthusiasts as well as those just interested in the outdoors. The Caroni Bird Sanctuary is a 48 square mile wetland area on Trinidad’s western coast, part mangrove swamp and part lagoon.

Upon arrival you will board a large flat-bottomed boat with outboard motor and slowly travel along the beautiful waterways admiring the unusual landscape and variety of birds, crustaceans and other wildlife. Birds you may spot include the neo-tropical cormorant, large-billed tern, tri-colored heron, red-capped cardinal, snowy egret and bi-colored cane-bill – to name just a few. Red, black and white mangroves populate the edges of the waterways and many tiny oysters cling to the roots of the mangroves. There are also possible sightings of non-poisonous snakes in the branches of the trees, caimans or silky anteaters.

Arriving in the wide lagoon, the boat becomes your floating vantage point to witness the protected brightly colored Scarlet Ibis. The birds feed and nest in this area and every sunset they fly in unison to roost, a spectacular cloud of red against the evening sky. They settle in the mangroves as the sun is setting, the quiet atmosphere of the lagoon adding atmosphere to a memorable trip.

A great day in Trinidad

Spent a great day exploring Trinidad with my guide, Zariee. Pickup from the hotel was right on time and she drove me around Port of Spain pointing out some of the highlights. Next was on to Maracas with a stop for local snacks overlooking the bay. The beach was beautiful and the surrounding mountains are spectacular. Had a great lunch and a walk on the beach before continuing on to Caroni via the cocoa and coffee growing valley. Caroni was fantastic, with wonderful wildlife viewing and a beautiful sunset watching the scarlet ibis. This is a great way to get a taste of Trinidad in one day --Thank you, Zariee!
Great operator and excellent tour

I booked an airport transfer with them during my recent layover in POS, along with an eco-culture tour combining the city/beach with the Caroni bird sanctuary. I booked directly through their website and was impressed by their professional booking system (most smaller tour companies don't even bother to invest in a professional-looking email address these days and I generally stay away from those one-man shops who communicate through a doggy hotmail/gmail/yahoo address). Both the airport transfer and the tour went great. I thoroughly enjoyed the combo tour with Mr. Mohammed, especially the Caroni - the scarlet iris were spectacular! Highly recommend!
Tour of Port of Spain and Caroni bird watching

Had an excellent guide- Stephan, who picked us up at the airport rather than the normal hotel (pre arranged by us through the tour operator). Showed us the highlights of the Town and instead of Marracas Bay, we wanted to go to Fort George so he did that. Lots of traffic did not faze him and he got us to the Caroni Bird Sanctuary in the nick of time! Well spoken, pleasant and knowledgeable guide and good tour operators who accommodated our personal requests by email and fast communication!
The Scarlet Ibis watching was definitely the highlight of our visit to Trinidad!!
A great day trip from Tobago
Cdazur2, 01-03-2019
We were spending a week on Tobago and wanted to do a day trip to Trinidad, principally to see the Scarlet Ibis. We flew over on the 20 minute flight in the morning and were met at the airport promptly by Janelle, who was unfailingly friendly and helpful throughout the day. After picking up two other guests, we went to the lookout at Fort George, and had a highlight tour of Port of Spain. Then it was off to Maracas Beach and the food at Richard's Shark and Bake. The weather did not cooperate and we unfortunately did not get to swim. By far the highlight of the day was the boat tour of Caroni swamp, and the chance to see hundreds - thousands - of Scarlet Ibis coming in to roost for the night. The guides on the boat were quick to point out other birds (including rarities like Tropical Screech Owl and Boat billed Heron) and the many boa constrictors in the trees! Then it was back to the airport for the flight home that evening.

As a tour company, I can recommend Island Experiences highly. Not only was our tour professional throughout, but I could see them bend over backwards to accommodate our fellow guests who had other tours they wanted to take and attractions they wanted to see. Highly recommended.
Beautiful scarlett ibis in Caroni

I took the Eco-Cultural Experience.
Had a ride around the city main highlights, and then headed to Maracas beach. It's a beautiful beach and had the chance to swim and eat bake and shark.
But for me the main highlight of this tour was the Caroni bird sanctuary, it was a beautiful show of the nature! The scarlett ibis are beautiful, and it was impressive see them flying in flocks. Well worth.
Janelle was very friendly and helpful, very good driver, we had a nice talk and gave us a good insight of the Trini culture
